How do you know if you have grub worm damage?

September 1, 2025

We've been seeing an increase in brown spots that look dead in lawns around the Louisville area. It could be several different things - but one of those is a grub worm infestation.

How do you know if it is grub worms?

The easiest way to tell if it is grub worm - or damage caused by grub worms - is to go out to your lawn and tug on the brown/dead areas. If it pulls up easily like a carpet, you've got a grub worm problem. You may even see the small, white worms or have areas that feel "spongy" because of the grub worm damage.

Grubworms feed on grass plants’ roots, destroying your lawn from below; this is why the grass pulls up easily when there is a grub worm problem.

Why Treatment Matters:

Grubs can cause severe damage in a short amount of time. You want to mitigate the damage as soon as possible to reduce the damage to your lawn.We recommend scheduling a treatment immediately  after detection of grub worms and potentially fall seeding to help reestablish your lawn in the areas that are dead.

The earlier you treat a grub worm problem - the better off your lawn will be long term. Call us today to schedule your grub worm application at 502-499-7841 or fill out our service request form to get your treatment scheduled!

Did you know that your lawn is made up of 1000s of individual grass plants? Seeding is one of the most important things you can do for your lawn’s overall health, appearance, and ability to naturally fight weeds. Seeding increases the total number of healthy grass plants in your lawn which boosts density. Achieving an ideal density helps to naturally suppress weeds because there isn’t space for them to establish.

Each year this customer in the Indian Hills area reaches out to complete their annual fence line clean up. The back wall along the driveway and the fence line between their house and the neighbor was overgrown, impeding parking to the garage and in the driveway itself, and was an overall eye sore for the homeowner.
